The Shoe Obsession

shoesTalk about shoes with any lady/girl, and they will say that they don’t have enough shoes to wear, even if they’re having a separate pair of shoes that they would change every day for the next month. Why are they almost always crazy while purchasing those shoes, even when they have those in excess? Why are they willing to pay anything for a pair of shoes even if they buy them online from reputed stores like Overstock with discount or even without any offers or deal?

The other day I was shopping with my girlfriend. She forced me to come with her to a shoe shop (does that rhyme?), and there she purchased the most cheapest shoe that was available to them. But once we left that shop, instead of complimenting the shoes that she purchased, she was talking about the design, and the material of the bag that she got with the shoe. I thought I had lost my sanity at that moment, because I don’t remember what happened next.

But according to a recent research, Cosmopolitan says that it is because they are always wired to have a lust for shoes, no matter how hard the situation is for them, they will always purchase those new pair of shoes just to make sure that they are look the best of all.

Compare that to guys, we never feel so excited about purchasing shoes. Any time we need those new pairs, we just go to the showroom, and purchase it. It’s no big deal for us, and most of the time, we even forget to mention that we’ve purchased a new pair of shoes. Many women reading this, will say that we are crazy about purchasing gadgets. I do agree with them on that, but to a certain extent.

The branding expert of the Fortune 100 companies, Martin Lindstrom says that there is an increase in the levels of dopamine when women try those new pair of shoes. The dopamine is considered as a feel-good chemical in our brain that also increases when we do drugs. Perhaps, I guess purchasing shoes are also an addiction, just like drugs.

Moreover, there are studies that suggest that women love those 5 inch heels, because we, as humans, are wired to believe that the height is associated with more power. And that is the reason why women feel that they have a higher status when they wear those high heels.

These heels also have historical significance, because in the previous centuries, only the wealthy people wore high heels, while other people just wore normal shoes to carry out their manual labor work. Helen Fisher, who is a professor of anthropology, says that this kind of mindset is still present in our brains, even though we might not think of it consciously.

When asked about it from a lady, they said that it is because shoes are an important part of our life. The shoes have the ability to change the look of our entire outfit, and nobody’s talking about those kick-ass flip-flops when you’re wearing the shoes that gets the guys praying. She said that shoes are connected to the ideas we get about travel, and our agility.

The way we stand, the way we walk, and the way we feel are all influenced by the type of shoes we wear. When wearing high heels, they feel taller, powerful, sexier, and capable of anything.

To be very honest, I guess they are true to some extent, because shoes really are an important part of our lives. I mean, how many times do we get out of our houses without wearing shoes? Yes, never. It means that these shoes protect us from the bad weather, burning roads, and other things.
